I like this guy but I'm shy and quiet, but he talks to me, and makes eye contact, is that flirting? Help!

He talks to me in geometry and homeroom and constantly catch him looking in English and Bio. Is that just him staring into outer space or friendliness or something? Problem is, we come from two different social groups. His friends think I'm weird and my friends think he's weird. Unfortunatly, that's hard to overcome, so any suggestions for that? I love my friends to death but still. Thanks in advance!!
