I'm thinking of getting a parakeet or a zebra finch...?

IME parakeets were a little more 'into' hanging out with people, and finches were not. Parakeets and finches both cannot deal with drafty rooms and are social - so getting more than just 1 is a good idea. Be sure the cage is large enough!
